Police looking for witnesses in Tampa strip club shooting

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa Police are still looking for witnesses in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured over the weekend.

Police say a fight broke out inside the Hollywood Nights Club on Howard Avenue late Saturday night.

Employees closed the club and told everyone to leave.

Police say the shooting happened in a parking lot outside of the club.

21 year old Wayne Thomas Lanier died as a result of his injuries.

Another man, Omar Bacon was wounded.

Police say there were a number of witnesses, but they are still hoping one will come forward with information that leads to an arrest.

Police spokesperson Laura McElroy says, "At this point we believe very strongly that there are people who witnessed this shooting. The parking lot was full. There was probably 200 people there and so we would urge the people who were there to do the right thing."

It's not the first time there have been problems at the club.

Police say they were called to Hollywood nights 43 times in the past year.

Herminia Gonzalez lives behind the club and says there are frequently problems there.

"Oh yea, the shooting, that's almost every week.", says Gonzalez.

She says she heard a number of shots this weekend at the club.

" I wake up and I hear, you know, a lot of shooting. I look by my window because I was scared and then I see the police coming.", says Gonzalez.

Police say club owners have tried to improve the problems by hiring off duty officers to patrol the club.

They've also installed cameras, but the cameras did not record this weekends shooting.
