Remains found in Nash County could be those of missing man

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -

Human remains found in an open field in Nash County could be those of a man reported missing nearly two weeks ago.

Capt. Patrick Joyner with the Nash County Sheriff's Office tells 9 On Your Side, skeletal remains were found around 7:30 Monday night in a field off Cummings Rd.

Deputies believe it's the body of 35-yr.-old Michael Shawn Williamson of Rocky Mount.  Williamson was reported missing Friday May 4th, shortly after Rocky Mount Police issued a warrant for his arrest.  Officers say he was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife.

Capt. Joyner says Williamson's car was found in the field near the remains that were badly decomposed.  Williamson was said to have diabetes along with other medical issues.  Deputies believe his death is related to health problems and they don't suspect foul play.

The medical examiner's office in Greenville is performing an autopsy.  We'll keep you updated with the latest developments in this case.
