ECU Baseball preps for final C-USA series

Posted: Updated:

There's only three games left in the ECU baseball regular season and believe it or not, Coach Billy Godwin's squad still has a shot at the conference title. Today the Pirates made their final preparations as UCF comes to Greenville on Thursday.

"To have such a great opportunity and come out and play for a conference championship, it's going to be huge," said ECU ace Jeff Hoffman. "We're going to come out with a lot of intensity."

After dropping their first two Conference USA series', ECU has came back to win five straight. It seems like the ball is finally bouncing their way.

"Guys were hitting the ball hard and it wasn't falling for them but it definitely builds your confidence when things start to go your way and it's a snowball effect," said Jack Reinheimer, ECU's shortstop.

If the Pirates can win a couple of games this weekend and get some help in the Houston vs Southern Miss. series, ECU could still win the regular season league crown. At this point in the season you never know what could happen.

"We've been through a lot this year," said DH/Closer Drew Reynolds. "It's been a long season, we've had ups and downs. We seem to be playing pretty good right now. We're going to continue playing well and hopefully it will be a good series."

The conclusion to the 2013 season is yet to be written but knowing this ECU team, it will be a dog fight until the very end.

"It's not how you begin, it's how you end," said Head Coach Billy Godwin. "I don't control what lies ahead of us but I like where our guys are at and I think they're playing very well."

Game one of the UCF series starts Thursday at 6 p.m. We'll have all your highlights here on 9 on Your Side at 11 p.m.
