JAMES CITY, N.C. -

A mother and her child are still alive after a tractor trailer slammed into their car and threw her out into the road.

The crash happened on U.S. 70 in James City, west of the railroad tracks.

Troopers said a semi-truck driver tried to make a right turn, but he didn't see the van beside him.

The woman said the truck hit her driver's side and flipped her van three or four times into a ditch.

"I feel so overwhelmed," said Queshoanda Hearns, van driver. "My three year old daughter was in the van, and we alive. I just thank God we alive."

She and her daughter climbed out of the van with only a few scrapes. She credited the seat belts for saving their lives.

Troopers charged the truck driver with a safe movement violation.
