Community to March for Babies at Greenville Town Common

Posted: Updated:

Did you know one in nine babies in the country is born prematurely?  In fact, it's the leading cause of newborn death and lifelong disabilities.  To raise money and awareness about this issue, hundreds are expected to turn out for this weekend's March for Babies in Greenville.

Emily Jarvis with the local chapter of March of Dimes dropped by Morning Edition to tell us why the group's mission is so important.  The organization is focused on improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.  The March for Babies is one of March of Dimes' signature events, bringing the community together for one walk, one voice, and one day to help babies be born healthy.

The March for Babies is Saturday, May 18th at the Greenville Town Common.  Registration is at 9a.m. and the walk begins at 10a.m.
