ECU doubles team goes to NCAA's for first time in program history

GREENVILLE, N.C. -
The ECU men's doubles team of Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller is headed to the NCAA Championships in Champagne, Ill. next week. It's the first time that any ECU tennis players, male or female, have participated in the NCAA championships.
 
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 16-21. The University of Illinois, Champaign will serve as host.
 
Opponents and match times will be announced at a later date.
 
Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships are awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. ECU will be the lone Conference USA representative at the championships.
 
Roller and Vliegen posted a record of 17-0 at the No. 1 position this season. Sixteen of their victories were by multiple sets, highlight by an 8-4 victory over the 20th-ranked doubles team of Chris Cooprider and Costa Blank of UNC Wilmington.
