KINSTON, N.C. -

It's taken nearly 50 years, but the students at a Kinston elementary school are finally getting their dream playground.

On Friday, teachers, parents and community volunteers offered to help assemble the new jungle gym at Southeast Elementary School.

The school received a $25,000 grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities after raising nearly $10,000 on their own last fall.

After decades without a full playground in a neighborhood that lacks a community park, the students said they can't wait to try it out.

"It looked nice and pretty," 6-year-old student Jeremiah Hart says. "And I like how they built it and I'm thankful for them building the whole playground."

The teachers hope to have the new playground assembled by next week – just in time for students to enjoy it before summer break. They say it will also be open to community kids during summer months.
