KINSTON, N.C. -

A man convicted of multiple felonies got away from police after running through a nearby neighborhood.

Investigators say it happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.  That's when they say 28-year-old Jneaka Sutton was spotted speeding on Tyree Rd.  Troopers pulled Sutton on Kornegay St. where Sutton first gave the trooper his brother's identification information.

Once Highway Patrol realized it was Sutton, they attempted to arrest him but Sutton ran away on foot, leading the trooper on a foot chase between the yards and nearby homes.

Crystal Taylor and her family were sitting on their front porch and saw Sutton take off across her yard.

"My daughter is in the backyard and this man, who I don't know, about in his late twenties is running across our yard toward the backyard," said Taylor.

Taylor's daughter ran in house, and the whole family went inside and locked their doors.

Two people in neighborhood tried to help by keeping a lookout for Sutton to make sure he didn't come back. Authorities say Sutton was almost hit by mail truck before entering the nearby woods where police lost him.

A small amount of marijuana was found in the car Sutton was driving.

Sutton's previous charges include speeding, DWI and felony breaking and entering.

If you know of Sutton's whereabouts, you're asked to contact the Kinston Police Department.
