Dozens run for fallen soldiers

Posted: Updated:

People at Ayden- Grifton High School lined up for the annual, Honor and Remember: run for the fallen event on Saturday morning.

One hundred and eighty-eight flags were lined up in the shape of star. Each flag was decorated with a picture, name, age, and hometown of a fallen soldier.

Each year, the local honor and remember chapter selects a family to donate a personalized flag to. This year's chosen honoree, the family of Private Michael Murdock, from Chocowinity.

"We are able to go to them and say yes we do, we remember, we understand your sacrifice, then it makes that connection," said event organizer Kathy Moore.

After the ceremony, people took to the track, with flags, to run a mile for each fallen solider.

This is the sixth year for the run.
