Victim shot twice during Ayden drive-by, investigation continues

Posted: Updated:

A drive-by shooting left a victim with serious injuries and police investigating into the night.

Police say it happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of West Barwick and High Street.  That's where investigators believe a dark colored car drove by, shooting the victim in the abdomen and leg.

The victim, 23-year-old Darus Brown of Ayden, was taken to Vidant Medical center for treatment and is in stable condition. People in the neighborhood say Brown is expected to be ok.

Marvin Stephens recently moved to Ayden, and says he didn't' expect to see this type of crime in a small town.

" Usually something like this happens in a larger city. Now this was a drive-by that happened last night, that's kind of disturbing. That stops a couple of streets over, it doesn't bother me too much, but I know crime can happen anywhere," said Stephens.

Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley says the investigation is still ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Ayden Police Department at (252) 481-5844.
