GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Transforming the lives of children and giving them a second chance. That is what the Methodist home for Children is all about, and we here at 9 On Your Side have been following their impact here in the east.

Today the group celebrated the accomplishments of local youth at St. James Methodist Church in Greenville. The "Home with a Heart" lunch today was all about educating the community on how they can partner and help youth in the east. Teenagers, foster parents, and others shared stories of their lives and how they've been served by the home for children.

One of those was Alvin Lassiter, a 17-year-old who is graduating from one of the organizations work programs. He shared how the skills he learned have changed his life. He told us "The skills that I have obtained which include – following instructions, accepting feedback, getting along with others, and proper reading skills have stayed with me and I put them to use daily".

Lassiter earned his GED through the program and is now working towards joining the North Carolina National Guard.
