FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

North Carolina troopers plan to crack down on drivers who text or send emails behind the wheel this Memorial Day weekend.

The Highway Patrol says officers have been told to watch Interstates 40, 85 and 95 as well as other major four-lane highways for distracted drivers.

Troopers will be in unmarked cars. They will be looking for drivers that weave in their lanes or suddenly slow down. They will then follow the drivers to see if they are using cellphones. Anyone tickets for texting while driving faces a fine that begins at $100

The Highway Patrol says troopers will also be looking for drunken drivers, speeders and seatbelt violators.
