Radio ad looks to drum up support for guns on campus

Posted: Updated:

A gun rights advocacy group started radio commercials Monday to drum up support for a bill that would allow students to store guns in their cars on campus.

House bill 937 is now in the Senate. It passed the House earlier this month.
UNC system leaders oppose the bill, including President Tom Ross. They say the bill would make campuses more dangerous.
But the new radio ads point to the recent sexual assault scandal at the University of North Carolina, saying the campus is already unsafe.

The organization behind the ad said they will also send out emails to their subscribers urging them to contact the UNC Board of Governors and their Senate representatives.
