AYDEN, N.C. -

Relief for the victims of the Moore, Oklahoma tornadoes is coming from right here in eastern North Carolina.

Organizers with the Ayden Chamber of Commerce have reached Moore, Oklahoma were tornados devastated lives on May 20th.  They spent weeks collecting school supplies from drop-off locations at Ayden elementary, middle, high school and the chamber.

Stacy Gaskins with the chamber says word spread and people were soon donated anything they could to the cause.  The culmination of the donation drive was the "Stuff the Truck" event put on Saturday at the Ayden Town Common. The event featured live music and attractions.

The 20-foot Pensky truck was filled with donations during the event and left for Moore on Monday.

"They have nothing," said Gaskins, "The insurance is not going to cover a lot of their basic supplies, things from staples to scissors to art projects, coloring books, crayons. This was K-6 schools so they need everything."

You can follow the journey on the "Stuff the Truck" Facebook account.
