Watch group credited with helping bust meth lab

Posted: Updated:

A Deep Run man is under arrest after narcotics detectives from the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office busted a meth lab on Saturday.

Officers charged Eric Phillip Harper with four felonies including Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances, Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Methamphetamine Precursors.

On Saturday, detectives went to Juniper Lane in Deep Run where 23-year-old Harper resided after receiving a drug complaint tip. Harper consented to a search of the home.

During the search, the detectives found evidence that suggested an active meth lab was located in the home.  Drug scales found there had detectives exit the residence following a meth lab discovery protocol.

Deep Run Fire Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations Meth Lab Response Team came to assist detectives.

According to Sheriff Chris Hill, a specially trained narcotics detectives recovered from the home bottles typically used to produce meth as well as potentially hazardous by-products.  Lye, salt and batteries were also found.

Hill commended the citizens of this area by saying, "we have been receiving many drug complaints about suspicious activity occurring in this area.  We also have an active community watch group in this area and many others in the county that are determined to rid their neighborhoods of criminal and narcotics activity.  We have to credit the citizens who notified us of this information because we cannot eliminate this type of drug production and criminal activity without their assistance."

Harper is confined with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Detention Center under a $130,000.00 secured bond.
