JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

An Onslow County teacher is getting special recognition for her leadership in the classroom.

On Thursday the school system announced Daylen Moore is the county's 2012-2013 Beginning Teacher of the Year.

Moore teaches seventh grade language arts at Southwest Middle School in Jacksonville.

The award is given every year to one outstanding teacher has a year or less experience on the job.

A fellow teacher nominated Moore for the award, saying that she excels at getting students excited about learning and improving their success.

"It was really great. It's something I feel really happy for, but I'm also so thankful I have an administration, staff, and mentor teacher here to support me," said Moore.

Onslow County also selected eighth grade teacher Marilyn Anding for their Mentor of the Year award.
