WASHINGTON, N.C. -

As Tropical Storm Andrea approaches, we're taking a look at counties further inland and their preparations.

Emergency management directors in counties all across the east say they are finishing up preparations and monitoring the storm.

"Through preparations we get people better prepared to deal with bad times and when people will listen and take the action necessary they will protect themselves," said John Pack, Beaufort County Emergency Management Coordinator

It's a motto of sorts he takes seriously.  He's been through enough storms in Beaufort County to know you don't go into one unprepared.

"Mother nature doesn't consult us.  She doesn't care about what we think but we have to be ready for whatever she's going to throw at us," said Pack.

Pack says he'll be staying at the Beaufort County Emergency Center throughout the entire storm.  It's a command center, now equipped with work stations for more than 20 other emergency officials and the latest technology - a program called Hurrevac.

Hurrevac will allow emergency officials in counties all across the east to interact and monitor the storm together.

It's preparing for the unpredictability of Mother Nature.
