American Idol winner and current N.C. State student Scotty McCreery traded jabs on Twitter with North Carolina infielder Michael Russell.

The Tar Heels defeated South Carolina 5-4 Tuesday to advance to the College World Series in Omaha where they will face the Wolfpack. McCreery took to Twitter to show his love of the Pack.

"And here we go. Go get it done @NCStateBaseball! #BeatUNCCH," McCreery wrote.

This brought a response from Russell. "I thought you were a singer, not a comedian," he tweeted.

McCreery shot back with, "only thing comedic here were your ab's against carlos in durham.. Glad your 900 followers got a laugh tho. #whoareyou."

Russell replied with, "I recall us winning that game in Durham. Afterwards we celebrated at bojangles where I threw away your face #BoTime."

McCreery followed up stating his strong allegiance to the Pack and how passionate he is about his school.

Russell has gained over 500 Twitter followers since the exchange with McCreery.

State and UNC play Sunday at 3 p.m.
