DHHS Secretary visits Wilson Department of Social Services

Posted: Updated:

North Carolina Dept. of Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos visited with staff at the Wilson County Department of Social Services Wednesday. She toured the facility, met with staff and commended the county for its progress with implementing NC FAST, the new web-based case management tool being rolled-out by DHHS at social services agencies across North Carolina.

Wilson DSS Director Glenn Osborne said in his more than 19 years as director, he never before had a DHHS Secretary visit the Wilson facility. Secretary Wos has been spending a lot of time on the road recently visiting community partners, some of whom have never been engaged by a DHHS Secretary.  They said they appreciated the chance to share ideas, offer feedback and discuss their work in the community.

Secretary Wos said she learned a great deal about the creative and innovative initiatives happening at Wilson DSS, such as the county's self-service express center. The express center is staffed by a DSS worker and includes a bank of computers where clients are able to apply for services. Wilson DSS uses the express center to reduce the time clients spend sitting the waiting room.
