NC colleges examine admission of more out-of-state students

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Universities in the North Carolina system may soon have to admit more out-of-state students.

The News and Observer reported university system board members are looking into ways to bring in more students from outside North Carolina.

The move comes as the UNC system faces another round of budget cuts. Out of state students bring in more money, because they pay higher tuition.

But board chairman Peter Hans said the initiative is more about attracting talented students than raising revenue.
