2 Pikeville men charged with Jones County church break-in

TRENTON, N.C. -

Two Pikeville men are behind bars for the break-in of a Jones County church.

It happened on Father's Day at the St. James AME Zion Church on Hwy 58, near the Long Point community in Maysville.

A deputy responding at the scene found the church door all but destroyed and two male suspects that he took into custody. He also found numerous other interior doors damaged, multiple items strewn about the church and an American Flag balled up, thrown and left hanging from a chandelier above the pews.

It's believed the two were search for money. A small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was also found in the suspect's vehicle.

19-year-old Brandon James Lamb and 16-year-old Joseph Doyle Perkins were arrested and charged with Break and Enter a Place of Worship(F), Larceny After Break and Enter(F), Injury to Real Property(M), multiple counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile(M), as well as Possession of Marijuana(M) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia(M). They'e in the Jones County Jail under a $25,000 Secured Bond.  Two juvenile girls found with the pair were released to their parents and juvenile petitions are pending.

Sheriff Danny R. Heath said about them, "There is a special place for someone who desecrates the house of the Lord and it's not in the Jones County Jail."
