Wallace man charged with restraining woman in vehicle after domestic dispute

A Wallace man is behind bars, accused of restraining a woman in her car during a domestic dispute.

It happened Sunday.

And official with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office said they got information from a motorist who told them they spotted the woman holding a sign to call 911 in another vehicle while traveling on NC Hwy 111.

That motorist followed the car all the way into Duplin County, where deputies with the Duplin County Sheriff's Office stopped the vehicle operated by Tregan Hankins.

The motorist followed the vehicle while providing information to the 911 dispatcher.  The vehicle traveled on NC Hwy 111 into Duplin County.  Deputies from the Duplin County Sheriff's Office located and stopped the vehicle, driven by Tregan Hankins.

Investigation into the incident pointed to a domestic dispute in which Hankins took the victim's car keys and she jumped into the vehicle before he could leave. The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident, including assault.

Hankins was charged with Motor Vehicle Theft, Felonious Restraint and Possession of Stolen Vehicle among other charges. He was placed under a $30,500 secure bond.
