Majority home builders say they feel good about market

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

The housing market received some good news on Monday. Home builders say they are more confident in the housing market.

Rocky Russell of Rocky Russell Homebuilders says his business is seeing some growth in recent years.

"I think the market is picking up. I have a real estate company too, and our sales are up about thirty percent than the same time last year, so there is an uptick in activity," said Russell.

For the first time since 2006, the majority of home builders report a good outlook on the industry.

9 On Your Side talked to Executive Director of the Pitt County Development Commission, Wanda Yuhas, to find out if a growing housing market could mean a growing local economy.

"We are seeing a good steady recovery. We're seeing that with an international company like Asmo, we're also seeing some of local developers ready to step out and make some local investments, that in 2008 and 2009 they weren't ready to make," said Yuhas.

Yuhas also says though the economy is not growing rapidly, it's still is growing at a steady rate.
