NASA selects Jacksonville woman for upcoming missions

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

A Jacksonville native is now part of the next class of NASA astronauts set to prepare for missions to an asteroid or even Mars.

Christina Hammock studied at N.C. State University and works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

She's part of the 2013 candidate class.

NASA chose her out of more than 6,000 applicants for its upcoming missions.
