Crews battle afternoon fire at Grimesland business

Posted: Updated:

Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at a business in Grimesland Thursday afternoon.

Dispatchers confirm the fire started just after noon at Ed's Marine Service, a boat repair shop, on Highway 33.

Authorities said they believe the cause of the fire to be electrical. The building was a total loss, but no boats were believed to be damaged.

The Grimesland fire chief said they train for this type of thing. Several other fire departments were called in to assist, including Clark's Neck, Blackjack-Simpson, Eastern Pines and Chocowinity Fire Departments, because of chemicals and potentially hazardous materials inside the building.
