North Carolina Bar Association adds new president

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

The North Carolina Bar Association has its 118th president. Alan W. Duncan officially took the position Saturday, June 22 at the NCBA Annual Meeting in Asheville.

Duncan is a 1976 graduate of Davidson College and a 1979 graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Law. Duncan was elected to the Guilford County Board of Education in 200 and has served as its chair since 2002. Duncan has also chaired the capital campaign for First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro and served as vice chair of the annual fund drive at Davidson College.

Duncan was honored in 2011 by the NCBA Litigation Section as the recipient of the Advocate's Award and in 2007 as a recipient of the NCBA's Citizen Lawyer Award. A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is a two-time recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.

In a press release Duncan said, "I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve our profession in the role of president of the North Carolina Bar Association. This Association has emphasized all of the great attributes of our profession in member services, and more importantly, has led our members in providing great service to the public in the best tradition of our profession. It will be very rewarding to work on behalf of the Association and its members in continuing that great legacy."
