AYDEN, N.C. -

The Town of Ayden handed out box fans to many of its customers on June 21, 2013 as part of a program created by the town to help customers with health conditions and low income families to control their energy usage through the summer months.

In total, the Ayden Governing Board gave out 56 box fans to those who applied and demonstrated that summertime heat creates a health or economic challenge for them.

"I am so grateful and proud of the Ayden Governing Board for being committed to helping our customers," said Ayden Mayor Steve Tripp in a news release. "Our box fan program is in its third year and has helped so many of our citizens that have health conditions and challenges with their utility payments as a result of energy consumption."

The Town of Ayden also helps their community during the winter with their Neighbor-to-Neighbor winter season program. Customers needing payment assistance their wintertime electric utility bills as a result of heating their living space can apply for help to the Pitt County Department of Social Services who assist with funding.
