Man charged with fraud after truck found at bottom of creek

Posted: Updated:

A Beaufort County Man is charged with insurance fraud when deputies found his truck at the bottom of a creek after he reported it stolen nearly five years ago.

In July of 2008, 38-year-old Jerry Wayne Davis reported his 2008 F-150 stolen from his residence on Pirates Cover Road in Washington. No leads were developed following the initial report. However, in February of 2013, the Sheriff's Office received information on the possible location of the stolen truck, and on April 6, 2013 the Sidney Dive Team located the truck at the bottom of Tranter's Creek near Mason's Landing Boating Access on Clark's Neck Road in Washington.

On June 24, 2013 investigator Wesley Waters presented the case to the Grand Jury of Beaufort County. In return, Davis was charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud and one count of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses.

Davis was released on a $15,000 unsecured bond after being arrested on June 25, 2013. An additional arrest in the case is pending.
