Man rescued after boat capsizes near Bonner Bridge

Posted: Updated:

The Coast Guard said it rescued a 28-year-old man from Oregon Inlet Wednesday.

It happened after the man's 16-foot boat capsized near the Bonner Bridge. That's close to Nags Head, N.C.

Good Samaritans spotted the man on top of a capsized vessel waving his arms around 6:15 p.m.

A crew on a 25-foot Response Boat - Small was called in to assist in the man's rescue, arriving around 6:30 p.m. He was taken from the water and to Station Oregon Inlet where he was met by awaiting emergency medical services personnel.

"Thanks to the quick actions and attentiveness of another boater in the area and close coordination between Dare County 911 and the Coast Guard, we were able to quickly resolve a very dangerous situation," said Lt. Kevin Sullivan, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector North Carolina. "This is a good opportunity to remind boaters to maintain a sharp lookout, as you never know when you may contribute to saving a life."

There were no injuries reported in the incident.
