Orange County Manager Frank Clifton has notified the Board of Orange County Commissioners that he plans to retire Sept. 29.
Clifton has been the county manager since 2009.
"Doing the public's business is not without criticism. The intent always focused on the best interest of the whole county and its future," he said in a letter to the board. "Together we faced difficult issues, with actions leading to successful outcomes."
Board chair Barry Jacobs praised Clifton in a statement, saying, "I know I speak for the entire Orange County board of commissioners when I express our gratitude for the good work and strong dedication you have brought to the position of manager."
Clifton is looking forward to retirement and devoting more time to his family.
