Lenoir County Deputies arrest teens in drug search

Posted: Updated:
KINSTON, N.C. -

Deputies from the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office went to a residence to to locate a person for a warrant and instead discovered drugs.

On Sunday, a deputy outside a home on Back Street in Kinston smelled marijuana from inside the residence.

Haley Goodman, 18, consented to a search of her residence.

Deputies found drugs and other evidence of drug use and paraphernalia.

Sheriff Chris Hill stated in a release, "Deputy Smith did an outstanding job in pursuing what he smelt and observed at this home.  Deputy Smith did not just attempt to serve a warrant, but had the intuition and knowledge to further investigate potential drug activity when he smelt the odor of burning marijuana coming from the home.  The seizure and arrest directly benefits the community by identifying the offenders, and removing the drugs for potential sale on the street.  I am concerned about the suspect's ages and I hope some sort of intervention will now occur."

Haley Goodman was arrested and charged with Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule VI, Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Samantha Goodman, 16, was also arrested and charged with Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver schedule VI, Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Both posted bond and were released from jail.

Charges are pending on a juvenile involved in the investigation.
