Deputies attempting to serve warrant make unrelated arrests

Posted: Updated:

Lenoir County Sheriff's attempting to serve a warrant made two unrelated drug arrests on June 23, 2013.

When deputies with the patrol division attempted to locate a wanted person on Back Street they made contact with resident Haley Goodman. After finding out the wanted person did not live at the residence a deputy smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the residence and spotted partially burned marijuana cigarette in an ashtray beside the door.

Goodman consented for deputies to search her residence and numerous items of paraphernalia and drug evidence were seized.During the search of the residence, numerous items were seized that included a "drug culture" book, 23 small bags of marijuana, four smoking devices, and other drug paraphernalia.

In a press release Sheriff Chris Hill stated, "Deputy Smith did an outstanding job in pursuing what he smelt and observed at this home.  Deputy Smith did not just attempt to serve a warrant, but had the intuition and knowledge to further investigate potential drug activity when he smelt the odor of burning marijuana coming from the home.  The seizure and arrest directly benefits the community by identifying the offenders, and removing the drugs for potential sale on the street.  I am concerned about the suspect's ages and I hope some sort of intervention will now occur."

Haley Goodman, 18, and Samantha Goodman, 16, of Kinston along with a juvenile were arrested on drug related charges. Both women posted bond and were released.

Charges are pending through Juvenile Services following a review of a juvenile petition.

Photographs for these individuals are not available because they were released upon payment of their bond before processing in the detention center.
