A man arrested during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Morrisville has been charged with unlawfully transporting 354 grams of methamphetamine.

Michael David Edwards, 29, of Durham, was stopped between Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard Wednesday, June 19 around 11 a.m. by a highway patrol trooper.

Edwards was charged with being a fugitive from justice and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was wanted in Tennessee for promoting, producing and manufacturing meth.

During the stop, the trooper discovered a liquid substance which was believed to be hazardous. The SBI said the liquid was not meth, but some items have been submitted to the State Crime Lab for analysis.

According to a warrant issued Thursday, June 27, Edwards hid the meth under the passenger seat of his vehicle.

Edwards remains in jail under a $750, 000 secured bond.
