GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Nearly a million North Carolina drivers will hit the road for the 4th of July.

That's slightly down from 2012.

AAA said it's the result of a shorter holiday period and higher gas prices.

Last year, the 4th of July was on a Wednesday, meaning a six-day travel period compared to five days this year.

And although gas prices are flat, they're 8% higher than this time last year.

The average price is in our state is $3.44 compared to $3.18 in 2012.
