Repeat offender, on the run from Beaufort County Sheriff's, captured in PA

CHOCOWINITY, N.C. -

Thanks to a Crime Stopper's tip, William Lane Jefferson was arrested by the Shippensburg Police Department in Pennsylvania on July 8th. Jefferson will be extradited back to North Carolina.

A repeat offender is on the run and once again wanted in Beaufort County.

On Dec 4, 2012 the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of larceny at a residence on Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity and a stolen firearm. On Dec 13, 2012 the Sheriff's Office received a report of stolen checks from the same residence. Deputies learned the suspect was a resident of the household and relative of the victim.

An investigation resulted in arrest warrants for William Jefferson, 23, of Chocowinity, charging him with Larceny of a Firearm, Forgery of an Instrument, Uttering Forged Instrument, and Obtaining Property by False Pretense.

This is not Jefferson's first run in with the law. Jefferson is also wanted for failing to appear in Beaufort County Court on unrelated charges.

Jefferson is still at large and tips indicate he may be in Pennsylvania. Anyone with information on the location of William Lane Jefferson is asked to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000.00 for information that leads to his arrest. Callers do not have to give their name to receive a reward.
