Unmanned rocket explodes after takeoff in Russia

Posted: Updated:

An unmanned rocket exploded in Kazakhstan Tuesday morning.

The Russian rocket veered off course and exploded in a fireball seconds after liftoff.

A state news agency reports the Proton-M rocket was carrying three satellites for Russia's global navigation satellite system.

The rocket had just taken off in a launch broadcast live on television.  Seconds later, it changed course, burst into flames and dove nose-first into the ground.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.
