Wake Co. deputy dragged by vehicle, suspect shot

A Wake County deputy was injured when he was dragged by a car during a traffic stop in Apex Friday night, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said around 7:30 p.m., Deputy Ricky Spivey attempted to stop Michael Joseph Morgan at 1116 Wimberly Road in Apex, near Morgan's home. Morgan drove off from the stop, dragging Spivey.

A second deputy on scene, Casey Miller, fired at Morgan's vehicle. Morgan was hit twice, officials said. 

Morgan was transported to Duke Hospital in Durham with non-life threatening injuries.

Spivey suffering minor injuries in the incident.

Morgan was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

The SBI is investigating the incident, the sheriff's office said.
