Man identified in New Bern drowning

NEW BERN, N.C. -

Joseph Diello, 86, drowned in the Trent River on Saturday. 

The New Bern Police Department tells 9 On Your Side a call came in around 4:38 P.M. to responded to the Olde Towne subdivision in New Bern.

His family told police Diello had been working all day and went to work on the dock behind his home.

Sgt. Paul Brown of the police department said in a voice message they responded to the call and worked with New Bern firefighters and members of the community to pull him out of the water.

Diello was taken to Carolina East Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Medical doctors signed it off as an accidental drowning.
