NY Yankees give Newtown families a day at the ballpark

BRONX, N.Y. -

The New York Yankees hosted 4,000 people from Newtown, CT for a free Sunday at the ballpark.

As part of a special pre-game ceremony, the names of the 26 victims from last December's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School were read aloud.   The Newtown Youth Voices sang the national anthem.

Yankees Manager Joe Girardi says it was the least his team can do.  "This is something that has scarred their lives forever and we can't forget that," he said.  "We can't forget that we need to reach out and continue to reach out to the families."

20 children and 6 adults died in that shooting.
