NC governor visiting Medicaid system centers

Posted: Updated:

Gov. Pat McCrory wants to see up close how a new Medicaid claims billing system for North Carolina is working.

McCrory and top administrators for the state Department of Health and Human Services planned Tuesday to visit the operations and call centers for the vendor hired to build and run the computer network. The system developed by Computer Sciences Corp. went online July 1.

The state health agency say the billing program called "NC Tracks" has now processed more than 2.5 million claims and is writing checks to Medicaid service providers for the first time this week.

McCrory said Monday so far there have been very few problems and no major breakdowns with the system.

The computer network replaced a legacy system that was first turned on in 1977.
