Snake causes overnight power outage in Greenville

Posted: Updated:

A corn snake caused over 1,200 people in Greenville to lose power for nearly an hour overnight, according to Greenville Utilities Commission.

GUC says a corn snake got in between an insulator and actually worked as a conductor, causing the insulator to blow. A spokesman says this type of incident is not uncommon and that squirrels and snakes are among the top causes for power outages in Greenville along with ice storms.

The power went out at 12:48 am and was returned at 1:41 am. In total, 1,263 were without power.
