The Kinston Dept. of Public Safety Law Enforcement Division has arrested a man for robbing a Kinston convenience store.

On Monday July 8, 2013 police responded to an armed robbery call at The Tobacco Cove on Hardee Road in Kinston. The clerk told officers an unknown man entered the store armed with two knives and demanded money. The clerk says he was attacked but was able to free himself. The suspect fled the scene in the clerks vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash and some jewelry.

The following morning around 5:00 AM officers stopped Karl Lee Covington Jr. On West Vernon Ave. Covington was taken into custody without incident and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $60,000 secured bond.

The clerk's vehicle was later recovered.
