Free Food Saturday

Posted: Updated:

The rain didn't keep a man in the east from giving back on Saturday. Phillip Bryant along with several volunteers spent the day at Kearney Park in Greenville giving away free barbeque sandwiches and cole slaw.

The food for the event was originally prepared for a Hope of Glory event. However, the rainy weather forced the event to be canceled. Instead of letting the food go to waste, Bryant and some friends decided they would go ahead and give the food away for free.

Besides food, kids were treated to a friendly game of baseball.

"Just a family day, everybody just coming together. There's too much separation on this earth, and everybody coming together and just having a family day and eating barbeque," said Bryant.

Bryant hopes to offer more of these free events once he's non-profit restaurant "Poppy's Smokehouse" opens.

Bryant says profits from the restaurant will go to scholarship for kids with disabilities to receive therapy, sponsor free family fun day events, and to fund missionary work.
