DURHAM, N.C. -

About 100 bicyclists gathered Sunday to honor a friend who was hit and killed by a driver in Durham shortly before 9 p.m. July 8.

Seth Vidal, 36, was a well-known software developer at Red Hat.

He was riding his bike on Hillandale Rd. near I-85 when he was hit from behind and killed by a driver who did not stop.

Maceo Christopher Kemp Jr., 27, of Manson, N.C. turned himself in the next day. Durham police charged him with felony hit-and-run and driving while his license was revoked.

The memorial ride for Vidal started at a cycle shop in Durham and was to move slowly by Vidal's home in Durham before continuing.

A "ghost bike" painted white was also placed along Hillandale as a reminder to drivers to share the road.
