GREENVILLE, N.C. -

When EMS crews respond to emergency calls every second counts.  They're precious seconds that could make the difference between life and death.

Now responders are telling us about a growing problem: people not getting out of the way when they come down the street.

9 On Your Side was sent to investigate these rescue roadblocks and what exactly we're suppose to do when we see those flashing emergency lights.

A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Study released in 2003 shows 74 percent of EMS fatalities were directly related to transportation accidents.

The law mandates drivers move to the right lane and slow their vehicle because EMS trucks, when possible, will always travel in the left lane.

During our two-day ride-along with Greenville EMS 1 you can see some drivers doing that very thing and others doing the opposite.
