Racism in the Big Brother house?

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday nights on "9 on your side," you can watch a prime time social experiment more commonly known as "Big Brother."  It's a popular reality show that's been on CBS since 2000.  And this summer, it's getting heated.  Envelope-pushing television, indeed.

A "New York Times" article by Jon Caramanica is the latest report to trend online about overt racism taking over the Big Brother house this summer.

Race and diversity are at the forefront of the nation's social conversation right now. Tensions are high in the wake of the George Zimmerman trial with protests breaking loose in certain places, most of them peaceful.

There's Paula Deen and the conversation a video deposition launched, as her tremendous career unravels right in front of us, and all over race.  In the "Big Brother" house right now, a conversation is underway sparked by the behavior of a couple of contestants, primarily Aaryn Gries, a model from Texas.

From slurs to sarcasm, her questionable behavior is outraging a lot of people.  The cameras are on her 24/7.  America hears every word, and she says (on live TV) she wishes she cared more.

The show is now offering a disclaimer before it airs.  Here's ours.  The video attached to this article is what's got the web in such an uproar.  If these kinds of things bother you, you might want to think twice before clicking the link.

Her fellow contestants, minus Ginamarie (the houseguest who seems to enjoy the race bashing as much as Aaryn), don't like what they hear predicting Aaryn's words will hurt her, not only inside the house but outside it.  And given reports say she's already lost her job over it all (which she'll learn when she's evicted), they're right.

We've launched this conversation on our Facebook page.  Click over and join in or comment here.  We'd love to know your thoughts.
