RICHMOND, VA - 8News' new meteorologist Katie Dupree, who starts Friday evening, said she was always fascinated by the weather.
"I was the kid that ran outside to look at the clouds and wasn't afraid of thunderstorms."
Dupree grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan, where she shadowed the local weather man, and knew that she wanted to do that as a career at a young age.
Dupree went to Central Michigan University, and comes to Richmond from 9&10 News in Northern Michigan, where she worked for two and a half years.
In her short time as a meteorologist, Dupree has reported on severe storms, tornadoes, ice storms and winter storms that brought over a foot of snow in 24 hours.
"Living in Michigan, we get a bit of everything," she says. "I think that's what fascinated me the most was the extremes that weather can bring."
Dupree's favorite part of covering the weather is keeping the viewers informed, and interacting with them, especially during severe weather.
"I am big on social media, and love getting reports during storms, answering questions, and generally connecting with the viewers."
