BEAUFORT, N.C. -

Three men are behind bars, charged with burglary and assault.

Deputies said they arrested 17-year-old Mark Lester, 16-year-old Caleb Mendoza, and 20-year-old Raymond Winchester Jr. in connection with the assault of 59-year-old Charles Morgan.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office said Mendoza and Lester were driven to the victim's
residence by Winchester on Friday night . The two then knocked on the door, forcing their way inside when Morgan opened it. They then, allegedly, assaulted him with a Ruger .223 caliber rifle, repeatedly beating him in the face with their hands, butt of the rifle, and even striking him in the head with a vase.

Morgan was taken to Carteret General Hospital, suffering from numerous facial fractures. He's since been released from the hospital.

This incident happened after the mother of one of the boys said she was assaulted earlier in the day by Morgan.

Mendoza was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, and Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Lester was charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. Winchester was charged with Aiding & Abetting for each charge of 1st Degree Burglary, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, and Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.

All three men were placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
