CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Mother bear tries to free trapped cub

Posted: Updated:
AZUSA, C.A. -

A mother bear is caught on camera trying to open a trash dumpster after one of her cubs gets trapped inside.

It takes an hour and 20 minutes, but finally the cub gets free.

Police passed the call along to California Fish and Wildlife who sent Adam Smith to the rescue.

"The mother was actually on it at one point trying to open the lid but couldn't do it and it would've been prevented if someone just closed that can," said Smith.

Smith was able to chase the mother away long enough to open the lid so the cub could climb out, reunite with its family and run off into the woods.
