Man shares name with George Zimmerman, gets threatening calls

DELAND, F.L. -

Will the real George Zimmerman please stand up?

A Florida man says his name has made him an unlucky target for nasty phone calls.  His name is George Zimmermann, but unlike his namesake, the Methodist preacher spells his last name with two n's.

That hasn't stopped people from calling his home at all hours with threats.  He says he's gotten so many he's been forced to call the local sheriff's office for help.

Zimmermann says it began the night the other George was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.  Someone called and cursed him out.

"That is not good," said George Zimermann.  "That kinda shook me, 'cause I was in a deep and it woke me up, and I'm thinking 'Oh God, it's Sunday morning and I gotta go to church in three hours.'"

Zimmermann with two n's says he's taking it in stride.  When they call he points out that he's not that George Zimmerman.  He says if venting makes people feel better, he can live with it.

A nice firm handshake has long been a mark of good manners and elevated social skills, but it's also a very germy way to greet your fellow humans.
